Kansai Electric markets compact air purifier that can be worn:The Asahi Shimbun - Asahi Shimbun

Just in time for peak flu season, Kansai Electric Power Co. has released a portable air purifier that can be worn around the neck that targets workers at hospitals and restaurants.

The device can send clean air around the user’s face by removing viruses and bacteria in the air and dissolving the air into harmless water and carbon dioxide, drawing on the technology of photocatalytic decontamination.

The 10 centimeters by 8 cm device weighs 100 grams. The user can hang it around their neck like a name card on a strap.

The purifier, which is rechargeable, can operate up to eight hours on a charge. The current market price is about 25,000 yen ($221), excluding tax.

The device can also hold an employee ID card.

“Compared with existing models, it is easy to maintain,” said a Kansai Electric official involved in the development of the product. “We are eager to offer new products with added value through the use of electricity.”
