Air purifiers and COPD: Can they help? - Medical News Today

Image
Air purifiers may help relieve symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). They are not a replacement for other COPD treatments. However, emerging research suggests they may improve the environment by removing smoke and other pollutants. In 2022, researchers found that portable indoor air filters could improve symptoms in former smokers with COPD. Other research has found that indoor air pollution is a risk factor for COPD symptoms and death. Read on to learn more about how air purifiers may help manage COPD. Indoor air pollution may not be visible, but it includes tiny particles. These particles can irritate the lungs and may exacerbate allergies. Emerging research suggests they may also intensify symptoms of COPD. Air purifiers work by filtering the air in a room, using a fan or other technology to pull air through the filter. The filter traps tiny particles, removing them from the air and reducing exposure to indoor air pollution. Types of air purifiers Air purifiers...

NEW YORK , June 1, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Advertising Division (NAD) of BBB National Programs determined that RGF Environmental Group, Inc., manufacturer of RGF Air Purification Devices, can make certain general efficacy claims, including that the REME HALO air purifier "provides whole home and building purification." However, NAD recommended that the advertiser discontinue claims that: The REME HALO air purifier provides "total indoor air purification"; The REME HALO air purifier "kills up to 99% of bacteria, mold and viruses"; The REME HALO air purifier "reduces sneeze germs by 99% in the time a sneeze can reach three feet"; and The REME HALO is "designed to eliminate sick building syndrome risks by reducing odors, air pollutants, VOCs (chemical odors), smoke, mold, bacteria and viruses," as well as the nearly identical claim for the GUARDIAN QR+ device. Reduced trace gas oxidizers as a response to organic carbon ... - Nature.com

Image
Abstract Atmospheric trace gases, such as H 2 and CO, are important energy sources for microbial growth and maintenance in various ecosystems, especially in arid deserts with little organic substrate. Nonetheless, the impact of soil organic C availability on microbial trace gas oxidation and the underlying mechanisms are unclear at the community level. This study investigated the energy and life-history strategies of soil microbiomes along an organic C gradient inside and out of Hedysarum scoparium islands dispersed in the Mu Us Desert, China. Metagenomic analysis showed that with increasing organic C availability from bare areas into "fertile islands", the abundance of trace gas oxidizers (TGOs) decreased, but that of trace gas nonoxidizers (TGNOs) increased. The variation in their abundance was more related to labile/soluble organic C levels than to stable/insoluble organic C levels. The consumption rates of H 2 and CO confirmed that organic C addition, especially solubl...

The 7 Best Air Purifiers for Allergies in 2023 - Dyson Air Purifier ... - Popular Mechanics

Our deputy editor Zoë Hannah likes that the MinusA3 purifier has a very fast air intake, so if you have smells like smoke or food odors floating around, they won't linger for very long. She also notes how incredibly quiet the device is when it's running—the quietest one we recommend here. The air purifier works best in large rooms as it can cover over 1,000 square feet. The machine has different filtration options depending on the pollutant you're trying to tackle, such as odors, germs, or pet dander. There are six stages of filtration, including a HEPA filter for small particles, a carbon filter for odors, and then the custom filter of your choosing that can target a specific concern. Zoë found one of the coolest features of the air purifier to be the varying installation methods. "You can hang it on the wall upside down or right-side up, so it's a really good option for mounting permanently," she says.

The new Dyson Big+Quiet Formaldehyde is its "quietest, most ... - TechRadar

(Image credit: Dyson) Dyson's been on a roll in recent weeks with product announcements and it's not showing any signs of stopping with the launch of the Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde.   Not to be confused with the Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde, which is designed for offices and other professional spaces, the Dyson Purifier Big+Quiet Formaldehyde gets its name from the fact it's been built to purify the air in large homes and rooms, without ever exceeding 56 decibels of noise. Described as Dyson's "quietest yet most powerful purifier", it processes as much as 87 liters of purified air every second, and propels it up to 10 meters, using what's known as Cone Aerodynamics. This is a new airflow system that uses the Coanda effect to more than double the airflow of any of its other purifiers.  The Coanda effect is already seen in the Dyson Airwrap – it's what pulls the hair towards the styling ...
